Fastening solutions major YKK India has officially commenced construction on its third manufacturing facility nationwide, marked by a ceremonial groundbreaking at the Origins industrial cluster in Tiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu. Backed by a substantial capital allocation of US$ 150 million encompassing land acquisition, advanced machinery, and structural development, the sprawling 149,936-sq-m campus aims to address rising component requirements across southern apparel clusters. Establishing this southern operational anchor allows us to significantly compress supply lead times for regional garment exporters while aligning with international compliance standards, notes Jin Deguchi, Managing Director, YKK India.
Strengthening domestic supply chains and export competitiveness
As India's textile and apparel sector targets ambitious global trade expansion, component manufacturers are modernizing logistics networks to eliminate bottlenecks. The upcoming facility, scheduled for operational completion by February 2028, will feature advanced automated processing and dyeing infrastructure across a 74,658-sq-m built-up area. Industry specialists emphasize that localizing high-precision accessory production shields domestic converters from global freight volatility. By augmenting capacity alongside its existing northern plants in Haryana, YKK positions itself to support both burgeoning domestic retail consumption and value-added garment exports destined for western markets.
Capturing rising demand with capacity expansion
Operating as a subsidiary of Japan's YKK Corporation, YKK India specializes in manufacturing high-quality fastening products, including zippers and snap fasteners, primarily serving the textile, apparel, and industrial sectors. With existing manufacturing plants in Bawal and a nationwide commercial footprint, the company pursues strategic capacity expansion to capture rising manufacturing demand across emerging South Asian markets.
