The trade fairs Texworld and Apparelsourcing Paris took place September 15 to 18, 2014. Texworld is an international trade fair for fabrics, trims and accessories. It features fabrics like cotton, denim, embroidery, lace, functional fabrics, knitted fabrics, linen, hemp, prints, shirting, silk, wool, wool blends. The number of visitors went up 5.16 per cent with 15,034 visitors from 109 countries coming to see the 2015-16 winter collections shown by 1166 exhibitors.
Chinese woolen companies presented trendy, elaborate prints and weaves and took a large number of orders from some major fashion houses. Designers were enabled to source good-quality Japanese-made silks and textiles. Texworld had made agreements with exhibitors to offer to sell small quantities to couturiers.
Visitor figures from the six major countries were up, with a noteworthy resurgence from Italy, France, Turkey, Germany, Spain and the UK. Three European countries stood out this season because of their double-digit growth: Ireland, Poland and Norway. Bulgaria too deserves mention.
Asia also supported the fair, with the return of Japanese buyers, while South Korea and Hong Kong showed their interest. China, with 8 per cent, is now coming to buy for its domestic market. The highlights of the event were the launch of the new Shawls & Scarves feature and designer catwalk shows.
