India’s domestic textile and apparel conglomerates are re-aligning their manufacturing infrastructure toward North Indian industrial corridors to capitalize on government production incentives and skilled regional labor. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate Arvind Limited’s new garmenting facility in Mirzamurad, Varanasi, on October 25. Representing an initial Phase-1 capital investment of over Rs 100–150 crore across 8 acre, the unit is engineered to manufacture technical human protection fabrics, sportswear, and innerwear. Punit Lalbhai, Executive Director, Arvind Limited, emphasizes, expanding garmenting capacity in Uttar Pradesh provides strategic access to emerging northern logistics corridors while supporting supply contracts for global apparel partners including Jockey, US Polo Assn., and Arrow.

Leveraging central subsidies and female labor mobilization

Supported by the central government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and a recent Rs 600 crore fundraising via Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP), textile majors are scaling high-margin garment assembly to safeguard export margins. Operating in Khochwan village along National Highway 19, the Varanasi plant is set to generate direct employment for over 1,000 workers, with an emphasis on female industrial training. Industry analysts observe that establishing integrated garment hubs in Eastern Uttar Pradesh lowers operating overheads while creating localized supply lines for both domestic retail channels and international export markets.

Boosting global export capabilities

Founded in 1931, Arvind Limited is a major Indian textile conglomerate specializing in denim, woven fabrics, technical textiles, and readymade apparel. Generating over Rs 8,300 crore in annual turnover, the company expands through modern garmenting facilities and sustainable manufacturing, advancing Phase-2 infrastructure plans to boost global export capabilities.
